Aspect Financial Consultants

The directors of Aspect first met in 1991 when they worked for Provident Mutual. They liked and trusted each other and they shared an academic approach to the work they did. By the time Provident Mutual became part of the Aviva group, they had each left to pursue different paths in the same industry.  Aspect is the end result of a conversation the directors had in 1994 about starting their own company one day.

Andrew Dixon

Andy must like taking exams. He has two degrees; one in Engineering and the other in Financial Services; but it doesn't stop there. He has been awarded the designation of Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute by completing exams in subjects such as Taxation, Investment and Business Strategy.

Further exams meant he was also awarded the Associateship by the Personal Financial Society - all this puts Andy amongst the most qualified advisers in the country.

He was recently awarded the designation of Chartered Financial Planner (see box right) - considered the pinnacle of his profession.

Andy also lectures at a variety of Dental Schools to newly qualified and more established dentists about finance and the NHS pension scheme, and he is also an approved adviser to the Universities Superannuation Scheme.

With all this experience and knowledge, Andy routinely helps individuals and companies improve their overall financial position. He believes in a holistic approach to his advice and specialises in tax-planning for higher rate taxpayers.

Andrew lives in Leamington Spa, and spends most weekends trying to lower his handicap using Aspect's corporate golf membership.

Paul Tyler
Paul Tyler began working in the financial services industry in 1990 including work as a pension specialist at an insurance company and an independent financial adviser before starting Aspect with Andy in 2006.

Paul is registered with the FSA as a pension transfer specialist which means he can deal with the kind of pension problems that many other advisers aren't qualified to handle. Paul has passed Chartered Institute of Insurance Advanced exam in pensions (G60), Retirement Options (K10), Pension Investment Options (K20) and Pensions Simplification. This allows him to advise on the more complex aspects of pensions - including issues relating to self-investment, divorce and annuity deferral (drawdown). He has also passed the Certificate of Pension Trustee Knowledge in order to deal with the problems associated with final salary pension schemes.

Despite always being considered a pensions man, Paul considers himself an investment adviser first and foremost. He believes that a pension is just another type of tax-efficient investment and should be subject to the same decision making process that applies to non-pension investments.

Paul has a degree in English Literature (which means his reports are understandable) and lives in Balsall Common in Warwickshire.

Derrick McEvoy
Derrick started work in pensions in 1983 but took a different path to most of the financial services industry.  While he was working for pension companies he studied for a Financial Services degree in his spare time; while many in his industry were struggling to embrace professionalism, Derrick became an Associate and then a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Directly before starting Aspect Pensions Consultants (see the link below), Derrick worked for more than ten years at KPMG Pensions dealing with defined benefit (final salary) schemes where he led a team of pension professionals - including actuaries, administrators and consultants. During this time he helped companies and trustees deal with a broad range of issues including pensions strategy, funding, investment and the impact of changing legislation.

Today, he is one of the most experienced and qualified financial professionals working in his field and will be well known to many people with an interest in the pensions industry as a regular speaker at local pension seminars.

Derrick lives in Knowle in Solihull. In his spare time, he plays football and does his children's homework.

Steve Hubball
Steve joined Aspect at the start of 2007 but has been working in the financial services industry since the late 1980s. He progressed through a series of positions with some of the industry's foremost pension providers before ending up as a specialist in the pensions department of Clerical Medical. He became an Independent Financial Adviser in 1997.

Steve has a broad base of knowledge about the financial world and markets, but it is his original areas of expertise that continue to command his time – directors' pensions, company pension schemes and employee benefits.

He is registered with the FSA as a Pension Transfer Specialist – a title earned by examination. This gives him knowledge and confidence to deal with the type of pension problems that have many other financial advisers running for the hills.

Steve is also Aspect's long term care and equity release specialist – backed by qualifications that are recognized by the FSA. He provides support to the rest of the team in this area.

When he is not being clever with pensions, Steve can be found running around a Real Tennis court in Leamington Spa and football pitches around the Midlands.
